Our History

The story of Gatech Center Moving began in 2011, when Andrew Roberts founded the company with one used truck, a strong work ethic, and a clear goal—to offer honest, affordable, and dependable moving services in Hilo, HI and beyond.

Key Milestones

2011 – Launch

Operations began with local apartment and office moves. The team handled every job personally. No shortcuts.

2013 – First Staff

Demand grew. Gatech Center Moving hired its first movers and rented a small warehouse. We expanded to full residential and commerical services.

2015 – Fleet & Training

Two trucks were added. Formal training started: safe lifting, piano handling, furniture protection, and better time control. We introduced packing and insurance.

2017 – Interstate License

We gained authority for interstate moves. Routes expanded: from Hilo, HI to Denver, Seattle, LA. More long-haul jobs, better logistics.

2019 – Specialized Services

We added services for senior, student, and urgent last minute moves. We started handling pool table disassembly and full-packing jobs.

2020 – Pandemic Response

New health protocols, digital estimates, and contact-free service. Demand shifted, but operations stayed active. Focus on flexibility.

2021 – New Branch

A second location opened. This improved regional reach without adding complexity. Focus remained on personal service, not growth for growth’s sake.

2022 – Better Systems

Launched client portal: quotes, scheduling, and live tracking. Fewer delays, clearer communication.

2023 – Greener Fleet

We began transitioning to fuel-efficient trucks. Switched to recyclable packing materials. Small changes, real results.

2024 – Smart Routes & Hiring

Route software reduced delays. More hires, better training. We started a community program supporting families in need.
